Designer’s Statement
My work is inspired by nature and natural sources, which
I use for both colour and pattern. I like producing very textural
based pieces using a mixture of techniques, some of which
I manipulate to give my desired affects. I paint with procion
and discharge pastes as well as printing, to achieve these
textured looks. I have experimented with foiling and puff
and metallic binders to add to the textured finish. I have
developed designs using rusting, a new technique, involving
rusting fabric with metal plates. My work is very interior
focused, producing pieces that can be used as one-off wall
or window hangings or made into cushions. |

Aspirations
I would like to work within a team developing innovative
designs for the contemporary textiles market. I would like
to be involved in the designing and/or making of a product.
I am considering pursuing further education within the textiles
area to enhance my design aspirations. I am interested in
surface design and pattern and would like to get more specific
training and work experience. I am beginning to develop ideas
for selling my work, for example as framed pieces or as ‘art’
cushions. |
